About us

Croydon motor sports is London’s only short oval grass racing track within the M25.  We are situated in New Addington near Biggin hill airport on the border of Croydon and Bromley.

There has been some form of motor sport at Layhams farm since the 1930’s and we are very lucky to have a venue such as this in such a prominent position.

We are a member club of SEGTO (south east grass track organisation) of which there is a total of 4 clubs. We are all governed by one set of rules and regulations, and throughout the year each club holds a championship round and many drivers take the opportunity to travel and compete with the other clubs at there tracks for the overall SEGTO championship.

A brief history by Peter Cook

There are some variations in what some of the other tracks race, and we will sometimes introduce some different groups but whatever happens all our drivers have a minimum of two heats and a final. That gives the viewing public good value for money with a minimum of twenty seven races at every meeting, quite often more ! The drivers also get their rewards with trophies for the first three over the line in the finals.

To make the championship fair all drivers are graded and paint roofs accordingly. Novice drivers have white roofs and start at the front, they progress through yellow, blue and then to red. These drivers normally having more experience. The top three points drivers at the beginning of each meeting will start on the back row.

So, what do we race ?  Apart from coming down to see for yourself, here’s a brief guide;
